On the afternoon of August 3, 2018, at the Jing'an Kunlun Hotel, a curtain wall industry event was not affected by Typhoon Yunque's landing in Shanghai. The forum was bustling with people and excitement, attracting many industry experts.

This forum was jointly organized by the Shanghai Society of Architects, the Shanghai Decoration and Renovation Industry Association, the Shanghai Building Hardware and Window Industry Association, and the Shanghai Glass, Fiberglass and Glass Steel Industry Association. It was jointly undertaken by Haojing Holdings Group Co., Ltd., AGP Crystal Glass Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Shanghai Hejia Curtain Wall Design Consulting Co., Ltd., Shanghai Wendda Construction Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., Shanghai King Crown Curtain Wall Technology Co., Ltd., and American Pleotint Company. Special co-organizers included East China Architectural Design and Research Institute, Shanghai Meite Curtain Wall Co., Ltd., Gartner Curtain Wall (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Perkins&Will Architects, Shanghai Architectural Space Structure Engineering Technology Research Center, and China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau Decoration Engineering Co., Ltd.

Nearly four hundred group leaders, experts, architects, developers, curtain wall designers, and building materials suppliers in attendance stated that the successful holding of this forum has extremely positive and far-reaching significance for the curtain wall industry in Shanghai and even nationwide.

The conference was chaired by Mr. Chen Jun, Director of the Creation Center, East China Architectural Design and Research Institute, Huajian Group.

At the beginning of the forum, Mr. Xiao Yu, a senior expert in the curtain wall industry, a leading figure in the field, and Vice Chairman and Chief Engineer of Shanghai Meite Curtain Wall Co., Ltd., gave the first technical presentation. Mr. Xiao's past reports have always been insightful, rising from a technical level to a philosophical height. This presentation was no exception, presenting a unique and constructive "XY formula," pioneering the industry and providing a novel method for calculating and selecting curtain wall glass.

Mr. Xiao's report, starting from problem-oriented thinking and breaking through "inertial thinking," compared Chinese and American technical standards. Using an iterative optimized XY formula group, he conducted mathematical analysis of glass surface stress, mid-span deflection, and allowable area, achieving high consistency with actual engineering measurement data. He also proposed new solutions such as a quick reference stress table for area.

Mr. An Jishen, General Manager of the Glass Sales Division of Haojing Holdings Group Co., Ltd., presented a speech themed "Application Trends and New Technologies of Curtain Wall Glass"

Mr. An's report discussed that the selection of building facade glass is not just about safety, aesthetics, energy efficiency, and comfort; the technical requirements of the processing process are also crucial. The report interpreted the important concept that technology creates the beauty of glass, glass creates the beauty of architecture, and glass envisions future life.

General Manager of Shanghai Wendda Construction Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd. Mr. Luo Yongzeng presented a themed report on "Discussion on the Design and Application of Curtain Wall Glass"

Mr. Luo's report highlighted the main influencing factors and easily overlooked aspects in curtain wall glass design, the differences in glass calculation methods between Chinese and American standards, and key points to note in glass application. He also shared reflections and implementations on the design and use of curtain wall glass in real-world cases such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, making it highly practical and inspiring.

From a unique perspective, Mr. Du rigorously demonstrated the framework for constructing curtain wall glass area, from mechanical theory to engineering practice. Through interactive discussions with the audience, he once again showed that the control of glass area is not a sufficient and necessary condition for the selection of curtain wall glass. This important conclusion brought us reflection and enlightenment.

Mid-session Guest Interaction

At the beginning of the interaction, the host solemnly introduced the specially invited guest, Master Wang Xiaoan, Executive Chief Architect of Huajian Group. He is widely known in the industry and society for his fundamental value judgment on building the long-term vitality of buildings. He was recently reappointed as a municipal government advisor. The organizing committee took this opportunity to express its sincere respect to Master Wang.

Mr. Wang Xiaoan, Mr. Xiao Yu, Mr. Du Pingjie, Mr. Luo Yongzeng, Ms. Sun Baolian, Mr. An Jishen, and Mr. Chen Jun took the stage to discuss in depth and exchange opinions on the past, present, and future of glass curtain walls, development directions, glass safety, allowable area, and regulatory provisions. They also provided wonderful answers to questions from the audience.

After a short coffee break, Mr. He Chunlin, a senior designer from Perkins&Will Architects, presented a report analysis of his design experience, "One Building, One City"

Mr. He Chuhong's report on "Application and Innovation of AGP Special Glass in Construction"

Mr. He's report discussed how AGP's special glass system integrates new glass products with frame systems, hardware, electronic control technology, and intelligence to create functional, technological, and artistic innovations. He also shared abundant practical cases, providing more and wider solutions for architectural design and consulting.

Mr. Zeng Liqiang, Greater China Sales Director of American Pleotint Company, spoke on "Suntuitive Self-Dimming Glass - A New Generation of Energy-Efficient Glass"

Suntuitive is an innovative self-dimming glass technology. When exposed to direct sunlight, it automatically darkens to a corresponding degree as the glass temperature rises. Suntuitive self-dimming glass not only blocks solar heat but also adjusts according to the building's needs for solar energy absorption, sunlight control, and natural light transmission, achieving energy efficiency and maintaining a comfortable indoor environment.

Finally, Ms. Sun Baolian, consultant to the Architectural Curtain Wall Professional Committee of the Shanghai Society of Architects, gave a summary speech.
